Speaker Bio
Started in the graphics art industry in 1987 as the shipping clerk at a company called Techtron Imaging Network in Downtown LA. Moved my way up through proofing on a Kodak Signature machine, to cleaning blankets on litho presses, to landing an apprenticeship as a 4/C table stripper. Four year apprenticeship, seven semesters of school at Printing Industry Institute, and became a union journeyman. Two thirds of the way through my apprenticeship, I was asked to train to operate a Scitex Assembler, and Scitex Star, which were the newest technologies in building artwork and ads on computers. One year into being a journeyman, the Macintosh computers came in, along with Photoshop, Illustrator & Quark. The union was breaking at this point, and at the urging of the executives at (now called) Seven Worldwide, I switched gears and started a career in sales, utilizing my (by then) extensive knowledge of production. After about a year in sales, our company was purchased by a competitor (AGT/Schawk), and I decided that after 11 years it was time for me to once again switch gears - into what was at the time called ‘Photo’, was the newest thing in printing, and would eventually evolve into Digital Printing. In 2002 it was time for me to head out onto my own. One morning at the gym I came up with the name ‘SCREAMING IMAGES’, and went to downtown Long Beach, CA, and registered it. The first three years I spent working from a home office, doing the design myself and vending out the printing to a company in the south. I was fully licensed and insured, and working 12 hours every day building relationships and confidence. In 2005 I packed my bags, bought a house, got a dog, and moved out to Las Vegas; which turned out to be the best decisions I had ever made. After three years of working from home, gathering all of my insurance, bonds and licenses, including a Nevada Contractors License for graphic installation - I opened my first shop, and bought my first printing equipment. April marks 16 years S.I. has been in business, and my shop has now evolved into 18,000 square feet, 30 employees, and eight grand format presses. S.I. is proud to be the primary vendor for MGM Resorts, as well as main vendor for Caesars Harrahs.
